Guitar Issues - 2008/08/18 16:14
Heres to start off a Guitar help FAQ section on guitars where people can come and ask questions about problems they have with their guitar.
Ill start it off by a very common problem that can be very annoying known as STRING BINDING this problem is caused by the string getting caught at the nut or at the bridge and it causes it to go out of tune. I had this problem recently so ill give you a few ideas and hopefully it will help you fix it.
What to look for:
You know that your guitar strings are binding if everytime you turn the tuning pegs they click. Also if you turn them the pitch of the string wont change until you hear the click and then the guitar becomes overtuned.
Methods of fixing the problem:
Firstly you can stick graphite in the nut to help lubricate it and allow the string to move more freely. You can also file the nut with nut files
Clean the bridge and make sure the string isn't sticking
make sure that the posts (i think thats what they are called) are parralel to the nut so that the string isnt getting bent. By posts i mean the things that some of the strings go under before the tuning peg on the headstock. (Sorry not that great of a description) Also make sure these are clean.
If the string stops clicking then you have been sucessful, otherwise you may have to take it to a professional but hopefully it should save you some £££
Anyway good luck and ask any questions on this post if you get stuck
