It's really amazing... If someone is interested, I can tell them the trick of compressing MP3s without losing quality.
*If I look at my sync record on the MP3 player, it shows I have 984 songs on there. When playing all music, it shows I have 997. I have had 997 songs on there at one point, but I deleted some. I don't know why it does this? Do you guys know? It's a Sansa m250

Anyways, I rip the original files as *.wav at 48KHz, and I use variable compression set at 20%. Set project quality to 48KHz (if you have Vista, or a damn good sound card, you can compress to 96KHz). Then you'll have a 4:00 long song at 1.3 megabytes or so.
Usually at 4:00 length, 20% VBR is around, eh, 90-112 kbps, but that won't mean anything, it's just a number, as the quality is determined by the 'frequency' (I use this word cautiously) being set at 48KHz
Mp3 conversion's default is 41KHz, so a common misconception that higher bitrate = higher quality. Bitrate has nothing to do with quality, in this instance, only size.
The only way bitrate matters is if you compare two like 'frequencies' at different bitrates. Older compressors didn't let you change the 'frequency,' so it was always default 41KHz. Well, common sense will tell that a 320Kbps file at 41KHz is of higher quality than say a 96Kbps file at 41KHz. A 112Kbps file at 48KHz is the same as a 320Kbps file at 41KHz. If you can do 96KHz, then you are lucky, and you can have small files with high quality.
This trick is a way to save space, and it doesn't kill the high-fidelity.

Lol. As soon as I read your topic title I eagerly anticipated bcdcdudes post as he has some of the most random music you can think of, and I love it  It's a bit of a pain as I end up spending money on itunes.
edit: a quick glance says you even wrote "it's fairly random' at the bottom, so I must be right. I'll have a good nose over it, haha!
