New studio album: TALES OF THE CROWN

With an impressive seventeen releases in 19 years, the Axel Rudi Pell Band counts among the most consistent, lasting and creative acts in the whole of Europe. Very few German guitarists can point to as long and successful a career as the musician from Bochum, whose unmistakable signature marks not only his characteristic guitar style, but also his compositional skills. 27 October 2008 (Germany: 24 October 2008) will see the arrival of his eighteenth offering, Tales Of The Crown, a haunting studio album featuring ten brand-new compositions. “Our fans will get just the kind of songs they have come to know and expect from me and my band,” says Pell, adding, “plus a few little innovations.” Axel Rudi Pell is referring to the contemporary touch which some of his latest tracks feature, mainly in terms of rhythm. “But don’t worry, these modern approaches are only gradual and don’t affect the typical flair of my songs.”
Tales Of The Crown was recorded at Gelsenkirchen’s Redhouse Studios by the tried and tested line-up consisting of Axel Rudi Pell, American vocalist Johnny Gioeli, keyboardist Ferdy Doernberg, bassist Volker Krawczak and drummer Mike Terrana. The album was produced by Axel Rudi Pell and sound engineer Charlie Bauerfeind, who also mixed the ten new numbers. Like its highly successful predecessor, the accomplished cover artwork was created by the Columbian artist, Felipe Machado Franco.
All those who were disappointed that the Axel Rudi Pell Band couldn’t make this year’s Wacken Open Air festival (vocalist Johnny Gioeli was unavailable due to commitments in the US) can look forward to their next tour in January/February 2009 – detailed concert dates to follow soon – and make a note in their diaries of the 20th anniversary W:O:A 2009, for which the band has already been confirmed.
Like the sound of this very much. The track titles are a bit different from the norm and the prospect of the little "innovations" is exciting

Same here. The track titles from this album sound different from the other, except, maybe, Angel Eyes.
I just hope this innovations are noticeable ^^U.

It's so good to be into an artist who can give you an album nigh on every two years (heck - we even had an album last year!).
I can't wait to hear this, and i just hope that they do the UK gig they promised to do in Fireworks magazine a couple of months ago.

TALES OF THE CROWN SOUND PREVIEWS
The mixing and the mastering of the new CD are completely finished. At the moment the booklet is in the works...
From now on we will post short sound snippets from every track in the running order of the new CD; every week a new track. "This is the first song on "Tales Of The Crown" called HIGHER and it´s NOT a fast one. "Everybody expects the fastest track on my records to be the first... haha... but not this time. Also the album has no Intro, except from a few notes at the beginning of HIGHER. I really like this song with a mighty guitar riff and a melodic chorus. A typical strong ARPish sounding tune... have fun !" Axel said.

Sounds sweet as. Really, heavy. Good to see Axel still going strong, the guitar in the pre-chorus is epic.

"This is the second track from "Tales Of The Crown" called AIN`T GONNA WIN. This song has an untypical ARP rhythm in some parts and sounds more modern than anything we did before. Of course you´ll recognize that it´s "us"...with a great catchy hookline. Enjoy !"

I really like this one, has a great rythym after the chorus.

EMOTIONAL ECHOES is a totally untypical Axel Rudi Pell Instrumental and has nothing to do with my other more classical influenced songs. We never worked with such rhythms before... it´s a "Santana meets Joe Satriani meets Michael Schenker" influenced kinda thing, of course very recognizable as ARP due to my lead guitar. After I played the rhythm guitars I was so excited about the groove, that i picked up the Bass and played it on this track. Volker liked my Bass playing too and he forgave me for doing his job on that track ... haha... have fun !

Yeah this one sounds really good, reminds me a bit of the 'open doors' piece but with a more updated approach. Can't wait for the full thing.

I've listened to the first 7 tracks. Higher is absolutely amazing - kinda like Mystica (the track), with a real catchy chorus and keyboard hook. The rest of the album so far is pretty good, but there doesn't really seem to be anything as catchy as Strong As A Rock or Rock The Nation. I won't give anything away but the last 10 seconds of Riding on An Arrow is pretty funny - you'll know why when you hear it
I got 3 more songs to go but initial impressions are that it's a good'un.

I really like Higher and Ain't Gonna Win. Then again, I like them all. And it's amazing how often he makes new albums. I think he has the most albums listing on my whole itunes, which is cool and weird at the same time.

So far I've listened to three tracks by ARP which have that kind of unexpected last seconds.
One is Holy Creatures... I don't remember the other one...
Does somebody know the meaning? Or is it just for the sake of randomness?
I like the new album a lot. I think it's a bit more heavier than the previous Axel albums. Ain't Gonna Win chorus is very catchy, Touching My Soul has those emotional vocals we always get from Johnny. I also like the hard rock feeling of Crossfire.
